In most cases a local move is a move done from city to city
within a state or in a 50-mile radius from your current location. The
industry standard is to charge per hour. The hourly rate will be calculated
depending on the number of movers and the number of trucks that are required
for the job. Your estimator will make the proper determination of such
charges. If packing is needed, that too is charged by the hour. Materials
are charged based on actual usage.
How does the estimator know what to charge? Simply by using his previous
experience in doing similar moves to figure out how long the move will take.
His estimate includes the amount of time it will take the drivers to leave
the garage, arrive at your home and finish the job. If needed he will add
the cost of boxes, tape and other packing materials, extra
insurance/valuation and known incidental costs.
